WHEN is the best time to TAKE ON THE SAND?
You can really take on the sand at any time of year. However, you will need to know your tides. The best driving conditions are at low tides, so learn when this is and plan to do your driving then.
4WD Sand Driving: TIPS AND TRICKS
TYRE PRESSURES – air down and then back up again before you hit the black tar!
BRING A SHOVEL – you may need to dig your way out if you get stuck.
TRACTION AIDS – ensure that you have some traction aids in your recovery kit.
WATER CROSSINGS - Always walk them first and make sure you mark out any suspicious areas. Note that these can change every tide cycle.
GET POLARISED SUNNIES - These highlight the gradations in the sand much more effectively as they remove the sun’s glare, giving you time to both see and react to any sharp changes in the terrain up ahead.
Drive to both conditions and speed limits.
THE RIGHT 4X4 TYRES FOR sand driving
Any tyres from our range can be used for driving on sand, however, the best tread patterns are all-terrain tread patterns. For Mickey Thompson tyres, this means the Mickey All-Terrain 38 or the ATZ P3.
The Mickey All-Terrain 38 features a new open, lateral and circumferential void tread pattern, the latest silica based compound and a high tensile construction. This tyre is an excellent upgrade for your 4WD or SUV for traction and strength on all terrains.
The ATZ P3 heralds a new breed of performance in an all-terrain tyre as it combines unique design elements, technology and engineering. With that combination this tyre crosses between being an all-terrain and mud terrain tyre to give you the grip and performance when you need it while retaining remarkable on-road traction and low noise characteristics to get you down the road in comfort.
