"CLAWS SAVED MY LIFE"
When
Kevin Brown took his family away for the weekend, he didn't expect
his new Mickey Thompson tyres would save them from possible disaster
- going off the side of a mountain with a 200 metre drop and a 60
degree face. Kevin tells us what happened and how his Mickey Thompson
Baja Claws clawed them back to safety
..
Headed
off to Bendethra for the October long weekend. In the weeks prior
it was raining fairly constant so I knew we had to change our tyres
from BF all terrain to a decent mud tyre just in case.
After
reading articles on various mud tyres I decided to go for the Mickey
Thompson Baja Claw Radial as they were the best tyre in most conditions
and their aggressive pattern looks like it could handle any wet
conditions that we had to face. Unknowingly this was the best decision
I have ever made.
It
was raining all day Friday and the fire trails were treacherous.
We were only 3kms from camp on the Middle Mountain Fire Trail and
eager to get there and setup for a relaxing weekend. We came around
a tight right-hand bend when I felt the road give way from beneath
the car. Luckily we were doing only 10kph in second low. I turned
sharply right fearing that we would go off the side of the mountain
with a 200 metre or so drop at about 60 degrees. Unfortunately,
the off-road trailer didn't make it and dropped straight off the
edge and rolled on its side. The whole vehicle started going backwards
with the trailer. I flattened the 'cruiser and the Claws just dug
in and pulled the trailer up the mountain on its side and back on
the road.
If
I didn't have the Baja Claws on, I reckon the whole car and trailer
was gone along with my wife and two boys. My mate wasn't so lucky,
he didn't have Mickey Thompson's on his cruiser and ended up 6ft
down the mountain.
How
did Kevin's Baja Claws claw him out of trouble?
Mickey Thompson's Baja Claw Radial tyre has a tested and proven
tread design - 23 degrees is the ultimate angle for cutting and
self-cleaning (used on plough blades and tractor tyres) and gives
maximum traction. And, with side-biters designed for climbing out
of ruts, scalloped alternate shoulder tread blocks for increased
off-road bite and traction in boggy conditions, a special tread
compound for incredible wet grip on bitumen, and 20% more rubber
in the upper sidewall for extra protection against staking, the
Baja Claw Radial is the ultimate steel-belted radial mud tyre.

The
Baja Claw Radial has re-inforced sidewalls, right where you need
it, just below the tread where the sidewall normally bulges, and
23 degree tread angles for self-cleaning. This tyre gives you Ultimate
off-road traction and is a great tyre on the road without excessive
noise.
